Government of Republic of Turkey has initiated a program for foreigners willing to acquire Turkish Citizenship. Accordingly, any foreigner purchasing a property with a minimum value of $400.000 in Turkey may have right to acquire Turkish Citizenship, provided that the foreign purchaser shall not transfer/sell the real estate for a minimum duration of 3 years. The law also permits Foreign Applicant’s spouse and children that are under the age of 18, to apply for Turkish Citizenship.

An appraisal report assessing the value of the property that is purchased is also required for foreigners willing to apply to acquire Turkish Citizenship. Accordingly, this report shall be prepared by a Firm having the approval licence by the Turkish Capital Markets Board.

Foreign direct investments law in Turkey is in effect as of 2003; the law intends to support and increase of foreign direct investment in Turkey.
The objective and scope of the foreign direct investment law in Turkey are the following:

• regulates the principles to encourage foreign direct investments; 
• protects the rights of foreign investors; 
• define investment and investor in line with international standards; 
• establish a notification-based system for foreign direct investments rather than screening and approval; and 
• increase foreign direct investments through established policies.

Under the FDI law in Turkey, there is no restriction by laws for foreigners to establish a company in Turkey.
Furthermore according to Turkish Commercial Code foreign investors are also able to establish a joint stock company or a limited liability company even with one shareholder. Accordingly, foreign investors can establish (i) a new company; (ii) open of a branch/liaison office (iii) acquire share of a company.
